Wolfram, creator of Mathematica, Wolfram|Alpha and the Wolfram Language, is seeking a proactive individual with exceptional communication, organization and editing skills to serve as a Publishing Assistant for its Wolfram Media group. This position requires the ability to multitask and interface professionally with both internal and external contacts, ranging from operational staff to technical contributors to contracted vendors.

The Publishing Assistant will coordinate the production and marketing for a number of book publications. Other duties for this role include handling research projects, communications with journalists and media, social media rollout and book-launch tasks. This role takes part in all major aspects of running a small press, including distribution logistics, editorial oversight, page production, advertising strategy and inventory management.



  • Conducting thorough research on publishing-related topics and reporting
  • Editing and evaluating technical content in STEM-related areas for clarity and overall editorial input
  • Conforming book manuscripts to set book styles, paging specifications and other guidelines
  • Planning for and managing book projects as added to the queue
  • Creating and executing marketing plans for individual books, print and social media
  • Writing pitches and book review requests; managing and tracking all book review efforts
  • Maintaining web product pages and internal project dashboards
  • Developing relationships with internal and external contacts as needed
  • Conducting comprehensive quality assurance testing on book products
  • Documenting and updating processes for all areas of the group as needed


Required qualifications

  • STEM degree or background in a similar field
  • Interest in and/or experience with publishing
  • Demonstrated strength in editing
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Strong research, organizational and analytical skills
  • Ability to handle multiple projects and tasks simultaneously
  • Ability to interact with cross-functional teams (editorial, design, production, web development, etc.)
  • High degree of initiative


Preferred qualifications

  • Interest in nonfiction, science, physics, math or related technical or quantitative fields
  • Experience with the Wolfram Language, Mathematica or other technical software
  • Knowledge of InDesign, Illustrator, Adobe DC, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word and basic HTML
  • Experience with Jira/Atlassian project management software
