Wolfram, creator of Mathematica, Wolfram|Alpha and the Wolfram Language, has an exciting opportunity for a Kernel Developer Intern in the Distributed Systems Engineering department. As a Kernel Developer Intern on the Wolfram Cloud team, you will work on the way the Wolfram Language interacts with the cloud. Our software is both in a public cloud and also in private clouds and must be scalable, efficient and convenient. It supports notebooks, web APIs and background tasks. As a member of a small, well-connected company, you will have opportunities to interact with our users and the amazing variety of areas in which they apply our technologies.   • Working with developers to add features to a container-based test system and to cloud development tools
  • Developing small-scoped web applications for use as examples and demos
  • Triaging test results, diagnosing problems and referring them to the right people

Required skills

  • Programming experience or coursework covering data structures and/or involving a large project
  • Attention to detail
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Initiative and the ability to organize details so things aren't lost
  • At least two years of an undergraduate degree in a computer-related major (computer science, software engineering or another major with sufficient programming coursework)

Preferred skills

  • Experience with functional or dynamic programming languages, ideally the Wolfram Language, but experience in languages such as Python, JavaScript, Scheme, Haskell, LISP or ML is a plus
  • Some experience with the Unix command line environment and containers
